In Ancient Persia during the Qajar Period 1794-1925, Capital Punishment was one of brutality and ingenuity.
Firuz Mirza was a Prince of the Royal Line, Military Commander and Administrator. He enforced capital punishment as the Governor of Farza at the behest of his nephew
Naser al-Din Shah Qajar. He subjected many criminals to various executions and during the 1850's several unfortunate looters succumbed to SHEKKEH.
An Official for the East India Trading Company was witness to one:
"the Criminal is hung up by the heels, head downwards, from a ladder
or two posts and the Executioner hacks away, with a sword , until the
body is bisected lengthways, terminating at the head. The two halves
are then suspended on a camel and paraded through the streets for
the edification of all beholders."
